Historical data and modern analysis methods enabled new insights

Collaboration around data can be the key to groundbreaking research. A good example is the global database Global Forest Biodiversity Initiative, which made a significant impact on the field of biodiversity in a short period of time.

Systematic inventories of the same type as the Swedish National Forest Inventory are conducted worldwide. However, the way this type of data is used in research has developed over time. A scientific article by a group of Swedish ecologists from 2013 would prove to be important for this development.
