Two young winners was awarded during the 28th meeting of the GBIF Governing Board. GBIF Young Researchers Award 2021 was shared between Julen Torrens Baile, Spain and Michael Belitz, USA.
BaiBaile developed protocols—along with an algorithm—for preprocessing occurrence data to improve its quality and then test them on species distribution models (SDM) for 12 species of freshwater fish considered invasive in the Iberian Peninsula, whereas Belitz data-intensive investigation of analyses and workflows that improves modelling predictions of the effect of climate change on the timing and frequency of insect reproduction.
